Where possible, tracking of GHG emissions should be incorporated into existing
environmental monitoring and reporting mechanisms. For example, they can be
integrated into the framework of the corporate environmental management system
and aligned with the financial performance management system. Particular attention
should be paid to the following points:
A. Determine reporting requirements.
Senior management will establish internal reporting requirements
for energy consumption and GHG emissions. The important point is not to duplicate
effort. You should only have to collect the data once, and use it for all energy
and GHG reporting requirements. All internal and external reporting requirements
should be clearly identified, including:
• Specific data requirements;
• Frequency of reporting; and
• Audience.
See Text
B. Assign responsibility for data collection, analysis and reporting.
Responsibility for data collection, analysis and reporting should be clearly
assigned. As someone responsible for GHG emissions data collection and reporting,
you should understand:
• what you are responsible for;
• what data you need to collect and how often;
• what methodologies you need to follow;
• who you will provide the data to (and what data each person will require);
and
• what the deadlines are for each report.
