A. One page Summary Form:
Identify any significant changes that have occurred during the reporting period
related to the scope of operations for which you are reporting. Be sure to identify
any of the following changes that could affect the level of GHG emissions:
• sales;
• acquisitions;
• shutdowns;
• expansions; and
• changes in ownership.
Report any changes to the boundaries you are using for your GHG emissions inventory.
For example, in this section you would note a decision to report on GHG emissions
from a joint venture that were not previously reported by your company, or the
inclusion of any additional indirect GHG emissions that were not reported in
previous years. If this is done, the inventory record for past years should
be adjusted to reflect this change so that you are comparing apples with apples.
Use this section to provide a brief explanation of key factors that have led
to significant changes in GHG emissions levels from the previous year. Consider
significant changes in both absolute and per unit emissions.

B. Excel Spreadsheet Reporting Form:
A hard copy of the Microsoft Excel spreadsheet is provided on page 39.
Specify the base year your company has chosen to use for reporting its base
year GHG emissions. MAC encourages you to provide the association with data
for your base year and for each year from 1995 to the present.
Step 1: Provide Energy Use Data
Enter energy consumption data in GJ. Conversion factors are provided in Part
7. Break energy consumption into:
• total fossil fuel consumption (including the energy content of all
fossil fuels used on site);
• total electricity consumption (including both purchased and self-generated
electricity); and
• other energy consumption (e.g. steam).
The spreadsheet automatically sums these values to calculate an energy use
sub-total.
If you sell self-generated energy (electricity or steam) back into the grid
or to a third party, record the number of GJ sold on the appropriate line. This
value is subtracted from the energy use sub-total to calculate Total Energy
Use.
Step 2: Enter Direct GHG Emissions
Using the data from your corporate GHG emissions inventory, enter the direct
GHG emissions produced by your company by greenhouse gas. All GHG emissions
must be reported in CO2e.
While most companies will report emissions of CO2, CH4, and N2O, the remaining
greenhouse gases (SF6, HCFC, PFC) are associated with specialized processes
and may not be applicable to your operations.
The spreadsheet will automatically sum the Total Direct Emissions in CO2e.
Step 3: Enter Indirect GHG Emissions
Using the data from your corporate GHG emissions inventory, enter the indirect
GHG emissions associated with your operations by greenhouse gas. This category
includes GHG emissions associated with generation of purchased energy in the
forms of electricity and steam. All GHG emissions must be reported in CO2e.
The spreadsheet will automatically calculate the Total Indirect Emissions in
CO2e.
Step 4: Enter Production Data
The next step is to enter production data, which will be used to link emissions
data to performance. The appropriate measure(s) of production depends on the
type of operation and the ability of the operation to attribute emissions to
specific production processes. It is essential that the production data
entered here be appropriate to the GHG emissions reported in the worksheet.
Examples included in the summary sheet include:
• Tonnes of mill throughput;
• Tonnes of ore product;
• Tonnes of refined metal;
• Tonnes of contained metal; and
• Troy ounces of gold or silver.
The worksheet will automatically calculate performance indicators for each
measure of production entered above, including:
• CO2e/tonne of throughput;
• CO2e/tonne of ore product;
• CO2e/tonne of refined metal;
• CO2e/tonne of contained metal;
• CO2e/troy ounce of gold/silver; and
• Energy intensity of production (Total Energy Consumed/appropriate
production measure expressed in GJ/tonne).
Step 5: Confirm Calculated Data
Prior to submitting the summary sheet to MAC, confirm that all calculated values
are the same as the values you have computed in your corporate GHG inventory.
Pay particular attention to the values for Total and Net CO2e Emissions and
the Performance Indicators.
See Figure
C. GHG Emission Projections Reporting Form:
Use the reporting form provided to report your GHG emissions projections to
MAC. Emissions projections should extend five years into the future (consistent
with your business planning process).
For each Business as Usual (BAU) GHG emission projection scenario, identify
the assumed commodity price within parentheses. Enter all emissions values in
tonnes of CO2e. Part 4 provides detailed guidance on developing
emissions projections.
D. Additional Information Form:
Use this form to report information to MAC related to offset projects, project-specific
reductions, and other relevant information that may interest MAC and MAC member
companies (for example, details of a successful education campaign).
If you have been engaged in a GHG emissions offset project during the past
year, provide a brief description of the project, including:
• project type;
• project partner(s);
• annual reduction in GHG emissions; and
• expected lifetime of the project and its emissions reduction stream.
Also use this form to document GHG emissions reductions associated with specific
projects or initiatives. This information is useful to MAC because it provides
details on the magnitude of reductions that have been achieved from specific
initiatives. Not all initiatives need to be reported here; rather, you should
select initiatives that have led to significant reductions, and for which the
reductions are directly attributable to the specific initiative.
Record all emissions reductions in units of CO2e.
