MAC commends government on progressive and constructive regulatory improvements

The Mining Association of Canada (MAC) commends government on progressive and constructive regulatory improvements.  Earlier today, the government of Canada today published new regulations under the Canadian Environmental Assessment Act (CEEA) that establish clear timelines for comprehensive studies.

MAC President and CEO Pierre Gratton said:  “The mining industry is facing a tremendous opportunity over the coming decade.  Global demand coupled with Canada’s exceptional natural resource endowment is creating opportunities not seen in generations.  While industry welcomes a rigorous legislative and regulatory environment in which to operate, certainty and timeliness are of the essence if we are to make the most of what lies before us.  While more needs to be done, these amendments are a step in the right direction.  They help strike a balance between responsible management of natural resources and creating an attractive investment climate.”

MAC and its member companies look forward to continued collaboration with the government of Canada in creating a regulatory environment that fosters growth in ways that are consistent with the values of Canadians.
